Making Water Reflection Photography by Photoshop!

Undoubtedly Photoshop is one of the most popular photo editing software. And it is such an wonderful photo editor that you can do almost any kinds of editing. Actually I am not a person of very good graphics and Photoshop knowledge. From today as the part of my learning process I will try to share post on Graphics and Photoshop. All the post that I will share will be available on Photoshop Tutorials level. Today's post I'm gonna show how to make Water Reflection Photography by Photoshop.


Here in this post I'm using Photoshop version 8.0. The options and commands that I'm using in this post can be different from Photoshop version to version. But I you have little Photoshop knowledge then you will be able to make Water Reflection Photography on any Photoshop version. Let's see how to do the trick.


Making Water Reflection Photography:
  • First open the picture using your Photoshop on which you want to add water reflection. Then Select the Background Layer at the Layers pallet and  Press Ctrl + J to make a Duplicate of The Background Layer.

  • Then click the Image option and click Canvas size. Now Canvas size pop up window will open. Here Set the measurement to Percent. Then enter 100 in Height. Then enter 0 in Width. Make sure that Relative option is checked. On the Anchor option Select the middle squire from the first row. That means your picture canvas size will increase at the bottom of your picture. Then click OK.

  • As a result of the above step and an Extra canvas will be added to the image, like image below.

  • Now click the Edit option then click Transform and then click Flip Vertical. As a result Photoshop will flip the picture upside down, like the image below.

  • The select the Move tool or press V. Then press Down key on the Keyboard to move the flipped image down till it fit to the extra canvas that you have added in the earlier step.

  • Then select Layer 1 at the layer palette and click Create a New Layer icon from the bottom of the layer palette to create a new layer. Look at the image below.

  • Then press D on the keyboard to make foreground color black and background color white. Then press Ctrl + Backspace to fill the new layer with White color.
  • Now select Layer 2. Then click Filter >> Sketch >> Halftone Pattern. Then Halftone Pattern box will open. Here in the Halftone Pattern box enter 7 in the Size50 in the Contrast and then Select Line in the Pattern type. Then click OK.

  • Then again click Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur. Then Gaussian Blur box will open. Here enter 4 in the Radius box or adjust the Radius value until it get very soft edge. Then click OK.

  • Then click Layer >> Duplicate Layer. Create this duplicate layer as a new document. Save this document in PSD format. After saving the document just close it.

  • Then select the Layer 2 and click the Delete Layer icon in the layer palette and click Yes to confirm the delete. Look at the image below.

  • Then click Filter >> Distort >> Displace. Then Displace box will open. Here enter Horizontal scale 4 and Vertical scale 0. Then click OK.

  • Now press Ctrl+Shift+E to merge the image. Then you will get the final Image where the water reflection will be added at the bottom of the image as you can see in the image below.
