- File: The first option is File and it is default option. Here click Choose File button and choose the file from your PC that you want to scan online and finally click Scan it! button to get the scanning result.
- URL: The next one is URL option and this is the most useful one. Select URL and type or paste a URL in the box and click Scan it! button. VirusTotal will scan and show the result.
- Search: The last scanning option is Search. If you want to search any domain, URL or IP address then select the Search option and enter any item that you want to scan and finally click Scan it! button.

Understanding The Scanning Result:
When you click Scan it! button then VirusTotal will start to scan and will take a few minutes to complete the scanning. It will take more times to scan depending on your item size. Normally a file will be scanned by approximately 50 antivirus engine and a URL will be scanned by 53 virus scanner. In the result it will show Detection Ratio and at the right side a virus indicator will be available.
