How to Disable Automatic Updates in Windows 10

Very recently windows has released its latest windows version, Windows 10. Basically it is a Technical Preview. That is why initially it require several updates. Let's consider my case, After installing windows 10 on my PC, I have noticed that it has a problem with resolution. After a few updates I had got the perfect resolution. So, windows updates is very necessary.

But there is a problem with windows 10 update system. In Windows 10 you are set to install new updates automatically. And you have no choice to change this Update settings. Because the change settings option is disabled. In this post I am gonna show how to disable automatic updates in Windows 10.


Why You Should Disable Automatic Update?

• If your internet bandwidth is limited.
• If you don't need windows updates at all.
• If the updates are creating problem with your windows activation.

The earlier version of windows (Windows 7, 8 or 8.1) there are four options in windows update setting to choose update process. These are...

• Install updates automatically.
• Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.
• Check for updates but let me choose.
• Never check for updates.

In Windows 10 you will not get the above options to choose. By default Install updates automatically option is selected. And because the Update Setting is disabled, you can't use the drop down menu. Look at the below image...

But there is a trick by which you can get back the options in windows 10 update settings. You have to enable this settings from Group Policy Editor. Let's see how enable Windows 10 Update Setting...

Enabling Windows 10 Update Setting:

• First open Run option. (Press Windows Key+ R)
• Then type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
• Then go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > All Settings.
• Then find Configure Automatic Updates (Press C to go there quickly).
• Then choose Enable. Here you will have 5 options. Choose Option-5: Allow local admin to choose setting.
• Finally click on Apply and then click OK.
  

Now Windows 10 Update Setting will be enabled, And you will get the drop down menu live, like the below image.

But if you look at these options then you can see that the Never Check for Updates option is not available. This option is vanished from this settings. And this option can't be restores. Now if you don't need to check for updates, the follow the below steps to stop checking for updates completely...

Disabling Windows 10 Automatic Updates:

• Again open Run option. ((Press Windows Key+ R)
• Then type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
• Then go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > All Settings.
• Then find Configure Automatic Updates.
• Then choose Disable option and click on Apply and then click OK.
  

This time Windows 10 Update Setting will be disabled again, But it will never check for, download, or install updates.

But if you're using firefox browser then you can ensure the security by setting a master password. Next time I will try to write about Chrome Master password.


Firefox has an option to set a master password. In this post I am gonna show how to set up a master password on your Firefox browser.


Setting a Master Password on Firefox:

1. First Open your Firefox browser.
2. Then from the Menu select Options.
3. Then click on the Security option.
4. Then here click on Use a Master Password. Then a window will open.
5. Here in this window Set your desired Master Password and click on OK.

That's it, Now nobody can see your passwords saved on Firefox browser.

If You Lost/Forget The Master Password?

Now the question is that if you lost or forget the master password then what to do? Don't worry if you forget the master password the visit the following link. It will give you an option to reset the master password. But it will remove all the existing passwords too.

Copy the above link and paste it in the Firefox browser address bar. Now click on Reset button which is located at the Right Bottom Corner of the window.

But there are some people who don't use chrome or not only use chrome but also use firefox. That is why I have decided to share this post about how to see saved password in Firefox.

Sometimes you may need to sign up for several online account, ie. Gmail, Facebook sign up. When you enter your online account from your Firefox browser then it may ask you to save the username and password. As a result when your enter your online account letter you don't need to enter the password again again. Saving passwords on browser saves time and makes the task easier. On the other hand it is not possible to remember all the password.

If you forget or lost your online account password then you can easily get it from your Firefox browser. But the condition is that the password must be saved in your Firefox browser. Ok lets know how to see saved password in Firefox browser.

1. First open your Firefox Browser.
2. Then from the Menu select Options.
3. Then click on the Security option.
4. Then click on Saved Password button.
5. Now you will see the list of accounts with saved password. Select account and click on Show Password button to see the saved password.
   
6. Beside these If you want to remove any account's saved password then select the account and click on Remove button. or if you want to remove all account's saved password then just click on Remove All button.

NB: The procedure is almost same for all version of Firefox. But it may varies little bit from firefox version to version. Don't worry you can do it.

Understanding The Scanning Result:

When you click Scan it! button then VirusTotal will start to scan and will take a few minutes to complete the scanning. It will take more times to scan depending on your item size. Normally a file will be scanned by approximately 50 antivirus engine and a URL will be scanned by 53 virus scanner. In the result it will show Detection Ratio and at the right side a virus indicator will be available.

• For File: In the analysis section you will see the list of antivirus by which your files is scanned and in the additional information section you will get more information of the scanned file.

Sometimes we may need to sign up for several online account like Gmail account. Microsoft Security Essential and Windows Defender are the most successful and effective security solution for windows PC. If you are using any of these two in your PC, then you don't need to use other security tools to protect your PC. But if you are using any other third party security tools or if you've any doubt about your current security software, then you should check its performance. And you can test your Antivirus performance by a sample virus.

Windows users often purchase security software ie. Norton, Kaspersky, Bit Defender etc. Many of them use trial versions to protect the system. But how much safe you are? Are these tools really working for you? Can these tools detect viruses or worms? Let's check it!

Testing PC Antivirus Performance:

• First open the Run option. (Press Windows Key+R)
• Then type Notepad and press Enter.
• Now Copy the below Code and Paste into the Notepad.

• Then Save the file as Virus.exe
• Finally Scan the file with your antivirus.

If your security tool is strong and if it has real time protection system, then you don't need to scan at all. It should be able to detect the file as virus automatically. If it doesn't detect the file immediately, then scan it. After scanning the file, if you see that your antivirus does nothing, remove the antivirus immediately. Because you're not safe with non performing security program. Rather it slows down your operating system.

Note: My windows defender had detected this file as virus immediately. Even if you save the file with .txt extension, defender can detect it. The background scanning system of defender is so strong. So, if your antivirus does not pass the test, then you should use either MSE or Defender.

How to Protect USB Drive from Autorun Virus!

Computer virus is al the main problem for the computer users that is why we always find the way to defend it. Maximum time virus catch the computer at the time of exchanging data from removable drive (pen drive, memory card) . It is not possible to eradicate the virus. However, some strategies can be found in the partial crossing. 

After entering the pen drive or any  instrument like pen drive to the computer a small signal virus named Autorun.inf spread throughout the hard drive. So pen drive insert into your computer, double-click on it and open it to become active viruses quickly and result in any danger. You will have to disable autorun so that it does not spread automatically.

Protecting USB Drive from Autorun:

• At first open Run option (Press Windows key+R)
• Then type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
• Now go to Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> Windows Components> AutoPlay Policy.
• Then double click Turn off Autoplay and select Enabled.
• Now from Turn off Autoplay select All drives and press OK.
• From Default behavior for Autorun select Do not commands and press OK.
• Again type services.msc in Run and press Enter then open Shell Hardware Detection from there.
• Select Disable from Startup type and click Stop at the button.
• Wait a moment then click Apply when the Service status will be Stopped.
  
  
  Now the pen drive will not be automatically Auto-played.

• Then again open Notepad and type attrib -h -r -s *.* and save with the name of UnHide.bat and keep it in your pen drive.
• If you double click the UnHide.bat it will show the hided file if it exists.
• Type the drive letter (such as M :) in any Internet browser's address bar and press enter it will show all files of your pen drive, and you can take file from here.

Bibon Virus Rapidly Spreading!

Internet Security Analysts said  recently in South Asia region a deadly computer virus named Bibon has spread rapidly. Indian computer Experts suggests to keep computer safe from Bibon virus attack. In the Press Trust of India news.

Bibona virus helps malware to access a computer.  This is a terrible Trojan malware community software, which incognito enter into a computer and that gives way to enter into the computer for other malware.

Indian Computer Emergency Response researchers Team said that, the Trojan Win32 / Bibon named virus is spreading rapidly. Before any external devices connected to the computer should be careful.

Before that Microsoft researchers had confirmed the existence of the Bibon virus. According to Microsoft, the bibon computer virus after entering into the computer it invite the other virus to enter. Because it is a supposed virus that is why the anti virus software can not detect it. It is difficult to remove the virus from your computer.

This rapid spreaded virus is spreading via online strange links, even from a USB drive. You can save you'r computer from Bibon virus by disabling Autorun feature and using update anti-virus software and computer security.   

How to Secure Gmail Account by Mobile Verification

• Then click Send Code option.

Now you will get a code into your message box, type the code in the box then click verify button and press next.

• After that Add back up Page will come, it will give you 10 back up code. If your mobile get lost then you will be able to log in to your account with this code.
• Now select Yes, I have a copy of my verification codes and click next. Then a new page will come set up your alternative mobile number and click next.
• Then click Turn on 2-step verification.

That's it now when you log in to your Gmail you will get a code into your message box. Only using the code you can log in to your Gmail.

How To Add & Remove Write Protection from Pen Drive

Pen or Flash drives are the most popular and handy gadget that has made easy to carry important content. Though Pen/Flash drive has many advantages, but there are some disadvantages too. And one of the most concerning problem is Security problem. Anyone can access into it and modify the content if they have it.

To present a solution for this problem I have decided to share this post. Using a simple Notepad trick we can easily enable and disable write protection whenever we want. Lets see how to do it.

Note: While doing these process you need to connect your Pen/Flash drive to your PC.

Enabling Pen/Flash Drive Write Protection:

1. At first open your Notepad and write or paste the code given below.


Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies] “WriteProtect”=dword:00000001

1. Then save with the name of romel_soft.reg .
2. Now double click this and click Yes then press OK.

That's it now your Pen/Flash drive is write protected and no one will modify your content

Disabling Pen/Flash Drive Write Protection:

1. Again open the Notepad and write or paste the code given below.


Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies] “WriteProtect”=dword:00000000

1. Then save the name of romel_soft2.reg.
2. Now double click this and click Yes then press OK.

Now release your  pen drive and connect it again. You will see that your Pen/Flash drive's write protection is disabled.
