How to Block Websites on PC (Without Software)

There are several reasons why you might want to block certain websites on your computer. Some websites could be spreading viruses, contain explicit content or even be trying to steal your personal data. While you may well be more than capable of avoiding these websites, but that doesn't stand true for every one who uses your device. In such cases, it might be best to block certain websites. In this post I'm gonna show how you can block websites on your PC.


If you're thinking to allow the minor member of your house to use internet on your house PC, but you also wanted to keep them away from surfing the web for appropriate materials like porn. Then the best idea is to block the porn and adult websites on your PC. There are several way and software by which you can porn websites on your PC. But when you can do this trick without using software then why should you search for the software. By editing the host file of your PC, you can easily block any website on your PC. Let's see the procedure...


Blocking Websites on Windows PC:
  • First press Windows Key+R to open Run option.
  • Then in the run option type C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc and press Enter.
Note: If your Windows isn't installed on the C: drive, then replace C with the windows installation drive letter.

  • Then double-click on hosts and open the document using Notepad when Windows prompts you.

  • Here in the Notepad locate the line # 127.0.0.1  localhost or # ::1   localhost and put the cursor at the below of the final line and then press Enter to create a new line.
  • Now here first type 127.0.0.1 and give an space and then type the website address that you want to block. You can also block the mobile version of that website. Just you will have to enter the mobile version's URL of that website. Have a look at the image below. 
Example:  To block Facebook type 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com. If you want to block more websites then add them one after one in the same way.

  • Finally press Ctrl+S to save the hosts file.
Note: If a prompt comes up saying that you cannot save the file because you are not an administrator, you'll need to change the administrator permissions to include you. To do this...
  • Right click on the hosts' file, choose Properties -> Security and make sure all the boxes are checked in your user account. This should allow you to save the file as an admin. 

That's it from now no one will be able to access the blocked websites from your PC.
