How to Change Folder Icons in Windows 7!

By default in windows PC a yellow color icon is used as the folder icon. But if you have a lot of folder saved in your PC then sometimes it will be very hard for you to find a specific folder from them. But if you use different folder icon then you can get easily rid from this problem. Previously I had discussed about how to changing pen drive/ hard drives icon. And today I'm gonna discuss about changing the folder icon.


Although all windows version has the folder icon changing feature, but application method of this trick is different. And the folder icon changing method that I'm showing in this post is applicable in windows 7. As changing folder icons in windows 7 is very easy task and most may know about the trick, but there are many beginners who don't know how to do it. This post is dedicated to them.


There are several folder icons available in windows 7. You can use these folder icons and can also use custom icon on your folder. But to use any image as icon you will have to create or convert icon image in icon format (must be .ico). First collect an icon format image. You can convert an image into icon by using the following software.


After getting your icon image ready, now follow the steps below to change your folder icon. Let's see how to do it.


Changing Folder Icons in Windows 7:

  • First click Right Mouse button on the Folder of which you want to change icon.
  • Then click on Properties. And the properties window will open.
  • Here in this window click on Customize tab.
  • Then at the bottom of the window click Change Icon button.

  • Here you will get a list of Windows Icons. You can use any of them. Just select your icon and click Apply and OK.

  • But if your want to use the custom icon then click on Browse button.
  • Then locate your custom icon and select it and then click Open > OK.
  • Finally click on Apply and OK.

That's it, Normally the folder icon will automatically be changed, but if not then restart your PC and you will see the result.
