How to Delete Windows.old Folder!

Recently I had Upgraded to Windows 10 from windows 8. Immediately after this up gradation my PC gets show. I thought that it is windows 10 technical problem. An it will be solved automatically. But the problem remains. So, I started to find out the reason for what my PC gets show. And I find that windows installation drive has a very low free space, it is because the old windows folder still remain in this drive. I tried to delete this old windows folder but I couldn't. Because old windows only can be deleted using disk cleanup tool. Today I'm gonna show how to delete windows old folder.

If you install windows without formatting the partition during the installation process, files that were used in your previous version of Windows are stored in the Windows.old folder. Windows has a built in Administrative tools named Disk cleanup by which you can easily delete this old windows folder. On the other hand this folder will be automatically removed within 28 days of upgrading. Lets see how to delete old windows folder by disk cleanup...

Warning: Before you use Disk Cleanup, make sure that all of your files and settings are where you expect them to be. Deleting the Windows.old folder can’t be undone.

Deleting Windows.old folder: To delete old windows folder form  your PC, you need to find Disk Cleanup tools in your PC. Finding Disk Cleanup tolls may not same in all windows version. But the rest of the process are same for window 7 to 10...
  • First open your PC's Control Panel. (Press Windows Key+R and type Control Panel and hit Enter)
  • In the Control Panel search box, type Admin and click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Disk Cleanup.
  • Then a popup window will open, here choose the drive where you Installed the windows. Then click on OK. It will start to calculate how much disk it can cleanup.
  • Then in the Disk Cleanup dialog, tap or click Clean up system files. Then again a popup window will open, here also choose the drive where you Installed the windows and click on OK.
  • Now in the Disk Cleanup dialog, Select the Previous Windows installation(s) check box, and any other check boxes for the files you want to delete, and then click OK.
  • Finally in the message that appears, click Delete files.

That't it. Now go to drive where the windows old folder was stored. You will find that the folder is deleted.
