Nowadays it will be very hard to find a person who don't have heard the name Android. Android is the most popular mobile phone operating system. And naturally when we talk about Android the device come  to our mind is Smartphones/Tablets. However being an open source platform Android is very much flexible in term of hardware it runs on. And even you can run Android on x86 computer architecture as well. Yes! you can. In this post I will show how to install Android Kitkat on PC.

Before we start, lets know something about Android on PC. Android-x86 is an unofficial build of Google’s operating system specially designed to work with Intel x86 hardware. This Android on Intel project gives you the facility to use Android on PC. However Android-x86 now support on a number of hardware manufacturers as well. And the most interesting thing is that it supports the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat.

Warning:  Please proceeds with caution! Do this trick at your own risk. www.iTTimesbd.com will not be responsible for any potential damage.

Requirement:
  • Android x86 ISO. Get it from here Download  (download the most appropriate version)
  • USB Flash drive (you may use a bootable CD/DVD as well)
  • Free hard disk space on the computer/laptop that you want to install Android on:
    • For Froyo – ICS, 2GB
    • For Jelly Bean 4.2 and 4.3, 8GB
    • For KitKat 4.4.2, 10GB
  • UNetbootin (to create bootable USB thumb drive). Get it from here Download.

Installing Android Kitkat on PC:
  1. First you need to download the appropriate Android x86 regarding to the hardware. And then download UNetbootin.
  2. Now create a bootable USB drive using UNetbootin and the ISO image that you downloaded earlier. Just click on the Diskimage button as shown in the below image and point it towards the ISO you downloaded in the previous step.
    UNetbootin software
  3. Then Reboot your computer using the USB drive as the source. You might need to change a couple of settings under your system’s BIOS to do that, although most modern systems already default to USB drive if it’s available.
  4. Then a Menu will appears. Here in the menu choose Install Android x86 to hard disk.
  5. Then Choose which partition to install Android x86 on.
    • If you're using a new partition for that, it’s better to format it at this point.
  6. Now a few prompts will appear pertaining to installation of GRUB Bootloader. Make sure you allow this.
  7. Then another prompt will ask you to make system /r/w. Hit Yes on this as well, especially if you'd like to modify your Android x86 installation later.
    • If you're installing ICS or earlier, you will get another prompt to install virtual SD card. Use 1800 MB for space, as that’s the maximum supported.
  8. Now finally Reboot your PC.
That's it. Since this will be a multiboot setup, you can choose to either boot to Windows or Android as you like. Here I am presenting Android Kitkat on PC screenshot.
